UP administration blames carelessness rather than criminal intent for the PCS-J test 2022 problems

In an official release on Tuesday, it was made clear that human error owing to negligence-rather than any criminal misconduct-was the cause of the marks being altered in the English answer sheets of the PCS-J Main Exam-2022, which was administered by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC).

"Human mistake, through carelessness, was the cause of the problem of marks manipulation in the English answer sheets of the PCS-J Main Exam-2022, administered by the UPPSC, rather than any criminal activity. This human error did not jeopardise any candidate's confidentially," the Uttar Pradesh government's official statement states.

"However, to eliminate the possibility of any other discrepancy or error and to maintain trust among the candidates, the Commission has decided to re-evaluate the answer sheets of all candidates who appeared for the exam," it states.

Note that the UPPSC maintains a unique, transparent method of showing candidates their answer papers; the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) does not even follow this procedure.

Timeline for marksheet error and re-evaluation  

There was a mix-up with the answer sheets for the English exam. A mistake in the coding caused some students to get the wrong grades.

Grading papers needs to be finished by July 30th. This is to follow the rules and help the students. A special team of 3 experienced women is secretly working on it.

The big test had 6 parts: 2 worth 100 points each and 4 worth 200 points each (total 1000 points). There was a mistake in grading one of the 100-point parts. To prevent this from happening again, the people in charge are looking at how things are done secretly and making changes.

The PCS-J 2022 results came out fast (under 7 months) and had more women (55 percent) than men. Some mistakes happened during grading, and people in charge are being disciplined.

Moreover, a retired Assistant Review Officer is the target of departmental action. Furthermore, a Deputy Secretary is facing disciplinary action for insufficient supervision, and the previous Exam Controller is also facing disciplinary action.
