Universities without an appointed Ombudsperson are listed by the UGC

In accordance with the University Grants Commission (Redressal of Grievances of Students) Regulations, 2023, universities that have not yet appointed an Ombudsperson or Ombudspersons are listed on an updated list by the University Grants Commission (UGC). There are about sixty-three universities on the updated list.

According to an official notification from the UGC, "This follows the Public Notice of the same reference dated June 1, 2024, which included a list of universities that had not appointed Ombudsperson(s) in accordance with the UGC Regulations, 2023. After receiving updates from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) regarding the appointment of Ombudspersons, the list has been revised as of July 1, 2024 and is attached herewith."

46 state institutions, six private universities, and 11 recognised universities that have not yet appointed an Ombudsperson are included on the most recent list.

Before, there were 108 state universities, 47 private universities, and two institutions that were considered to be in default on the list.

The UGC requests that the failing universities choose an Ombudsperson or Ombudspersons in accordance with the rules and notify the UGC at the following email addresses:

Universities that have appointed or plan to appoint Ombudsperson(s) are asked to send the complete details of the appointed people to the email addresses the UGC has supplied.
