Union Finance Minister advice aspiring nurses to learn local language

The Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman on September 15,2024 on Sunday advised the students who aspire to pursue nursing as a profession to learn a local language. They should do whenever they get an opportunity to serve. It has been observed that globally there has been a huge demand for Indian Nurses, learning a language no matter what the nation is , it would offer benefits she said.

She mentioned how Indian Nurses are valued across seas. Then while recalling her visit to Singapore ahead of PM Narendra Modi's meeting with his counterpart.

"About four cabinet ministers went there before the prime minister's visit and during our interaction with the Singapore prime minister, it was very much visible how much significance was given to Indian medicine, nurses and physiotherapists," she stated after inaugurating the Sankara College of Nursing here.

The Minister highlighted the fact how the Centre was giving importance to the medical sector and are encouraging more youngsters to take up courses in nursing. And she further told about 800 nurses from India, whether they may be hailing from Tamil Nadu or Assam, have gone to Singapore to serve there in the last two-three years.
"This not only pertains to Singapore. This (requirement for Indian nursing professionals) is seen in Japan, Europe and with the elderly population less in number in these countries, there is a requirement for Indian nurses and those who can give home care," she said.

The minister then claimed that the government in above mentioned countries are willing to recruit Indian nurses. Only concern that arises is, of language. The only requirement for those who are keen to work overseas is to learn the local language.

In addition, it not only is for overseas but all for nurses who get opportunity to work in North India.

She advised the students to learn languages through the digital medium, after their college hours to so they would be able to communicate effectively when they are posted to work as a nurse.

Nirmala Sitharaman observed the Centre was giving huge importance to medicine.
