The UGC-NET took place on Tuesday, June 18. Nonetheless, the NTA reported that the University Grants Commission (UGC) received information suggesting that the examination's integrity might have been compromised.
On Wednesday, the National Testing Agency (NTA) decided to annul the UGC-NET exam, held the previous day, due to concerns over the exam’s integrity.
The UGC-NET was administered on June 18 across 1205 centers in 317 cities, with over 1.1 million candidates participating.
The decision followed inputs indicating potential breaches in the exam's integrity received by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, as per the NTA.
The concerns were highlighted by the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), which operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
To maintain the transparency and sanctity of the exam process, the Ministry of Education has decided to cancel the UGC-NET June 2024 exam, with a new date to be announced later, the NTA stated.
The UGC-NET determines eligibility for Assistant Professorships and Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.
This issue follows similar discrepancies in the NEET-UG 2024 exam, with allegations of question paper leaks, particularly in Bihar.
Notably, 67 students achieved perfect scores, an unprecedented event, with six students from a single center in Haryana's Faridabad, leading to suspicions of irregularities. Allegations suggest grace marks may have contributed to this unusual result.
The NEET-UG exam, also conducted by the NTA, is used for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses across the country.
Regarding NEET-UG, the NTA stated that issues with grace marks have been resolved, and a detailed report on alleged irregularities in Patna has been requested from the Bihar Police's Economic Offences Unit. The government will take further action based on this report.
The government emphasized its commitment to ensuring exam integrity and protecting student interests, promising strict action against any individuals or organizations involved.
