UGC and Indian Embassy collaborate

UGC and the Indian Embassy to collaborate for the MARG series, where Indian-origin professors will guide Indian students in US universities.

Towards a collaborative step forward, the ministry of education, University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Indian embassy in partnership have launched ‘MARG’ series, it stands for Mentoring for Academic Excellence and Research Guidance. The project for mentoring will allow the Indian and Indian-origin faculty to mentor Indian university students and researchers at US universities, specifically in smaller cities and towns.

The main purpose of the mentoring is to provide exposure to Indian students and researchers to the recent developments in their discipline of study and offer knowledge, career advice, and skills, research opportunities from related experts across the US.

The Indian-origin professors from the prestigious US universities like Standford, Purdue, University of Maryland and George Mason University are all ready to participate in the beginning round of the series as mentioned by the Indian embassy.

During the session of inaugural, the Deputy Chief of Mission Sripriya Ranganathan focused on the growing academic, research, skilling, and industrial ecosystem in India.

Moreover, she focused on the significant and emerging technologies, involving semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) , machine learning (ML) ,high-performance computing, quantum science and technology bioengineering, clean energy and advanced material.

Ranganathan told that these sectors are driven by the leadership of both countries. It would help strengthen the academic, research, and technology partnership between India and the US.

In addition, the vice chancellors and directors of participating Indian universities expressed their belief that these sessions would benefit the students and faculty which is involved in teaching, skill development, and research in critical and emerging technology areas, as stated by the embassy.

UGC is a statutory body in India responsible for coordinating and funding higher education. It provides grants to universities and colleges, sets standards for academic programs, and regulates higher education institutions. And now it has also collaborated with Indian embassy to expand its aim.
