A considerable discrepancy between theory and practical grades in some courses has prompted CBSE to instruct affiliated schools to appropriately assess practical exams.
According to officials on Wednesday, the CBSE has discovered a notable discrepancy between theory and practical grades in specific areas for 50 percent of students in more over 500 schools, and has recommended that they reassess their internal assessment protocols.
It is recommended that schools give equal weight to impartiality and precision when grading practical exams, and make sure the procedure is practical and significantly enhances students' educational experiences.
CBSE secretary Himanshu Gupta said, "The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has detected, through advanced AI tools, a significant variation between theoretical and practical marks in certain subjects among 50 pc or more students in about 500 CBSE-affiliated schools, based on past years' results statistics".
He added, "This variance highlights a need for meticulous assessment during practical examinations in schools. Consequently, the Board has issued an advisory to such schools to review their internal assessment procedures”.
The goal, according to the CBSE, is to put in place a more solid, transparent, and trustworthy system to guarantee that the evaluation procedure is accurate and significantly enhances the academic experience of the students.
"This advisory serves as a reminder to prioritise fairness and accuracy in assessing practical examinations, thereby enhancing the quality of education imparted in CBSE-affiliated institutions," he said.
