On Tuesday, October 22,2024 the government of West Bengal Ordered the closure of schools and colleges in nine districts. From October 24, 2024 to October 25,2024, it is due to the threat from cyclone Dana.

The schools and colleges will remain closed in the districts mentioned, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Jhargram, Bankura, Hooghly, Howrah.

In addition, all integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centres in the district will also be closed ad per IANS. Previously, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by today, October 23,2024. It will reach the coasts near Odisha and West Bengal.

The cyclone Dana is anticipated to bring rainfall to both the states for at least next three days. Therefore, the government decided to close the educational institutions as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff as well. Students, parents and guardians are advised to stay updates, in regular contact with the school authority for information related to closure, online classes and other relevant details as well.

Like West Bengal, in Odisha also, the government has directed the closure of schools , colleges and educational institutions due to cyclone Dana. In districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khordha, Nayagarh and Cuttack districts. The schools will remain closed till October 25,2024. It is a precautionary measure, since the October 26-27 fall on the weekend, the schools will resume on October 28.

The Cyclone Dana is a tropical cyclone that has been affecting parts of India in recent days. It has brought heavy rains and strong winds to several states, which has caused flooding and other damage. The cyclone is expected to continue to impact the region for the next few days
