Patna prolongs school closures until June 19 due to the heatwave

The Patna district administration has extended the school closure for students up to class 8 until June 19 due to the ongoing heatwave in the state.

Temperatures have exceeded 44 degrees Celsius in 10 areas on Monday, creating severe heat conditions across Bihar. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that the heatwave will continue for another two to three days.

On Monday, Patna District Magistrate Shirsat Kapil Ashok ordered the closure of all government and private schools in the district for students up to 8th grade on June 18 and 19. However, teachers and non-teaching staff are still required to attend their schools and offices. Some private schools in the state capital have extended the summer vacation until June 22 due to the intense heat.

Aurangabad recorded the highest temperature at 46.9 degrees Celsius, with other regions such as Buxar, Dehri, Arwal, Bhojpur, Gaya, Bikramganj, Vaishali, Rajgir, and Nawada also experiencing temperatures over 44 degrees Celsius.

A senior official from the Bihar Disaster Management Department has advised people to avoid heat exposure, stay cool, and prevent dehydration during this extreme weather.
