Over 7,000 Professionals awarded degrees at BITS Pilani

With the use of Metaverse technology, almost 6,800 graduates participated electronically in addition to the approximately 1,000 grads who attended the convocation in person.

A convocation was held at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani to award degrees to 7,839 working individuals who completed MBA, MTech, MSc, and BTech programs through the institution's Work Integrated Learning Programmes (WILP) division.

With the use of Metaverse technology, almost 6,800 graduates participated electronically in addition to the approximately 1,000 grads who attended the convocation in person. According to the press release, nearly 111 of these graduates also graduated from 26 other countries. 

For those that attended in hybrid mode, this is the second consecutive hybrid convocation in which they went across a virtual stage with their customized 3D avatars to collect their degrees. Through the use of immersive technology and 3D modeling, the participants were also able to explore the BITS Pilani campuses virtually.

Speaker V Ramgopal Rao, vice chancellor of BITS Pilani, spoke at the event and stated, "The BITS Pilani WILP initiative not only helps working professionals gain academic insights and facilitates their growth, but also ensures that these graduates are equipped to face real world challenges and the changing global landscape." It is the second successive hybrid convocation where students who were present through a hybrid mode had their personalized 3D avatars walked across a virtual stage to receive their degrees.
