Odisha schools to be closed till oct 25 in 14 districts due to cyclone Dana

The Odisha government has directed school closure till October 255,2024 in these 14 districts. The decision comes as a precautionary measure for the Dana Cyclone. The districts are ; In districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khordha, Nayagarh and Cuttack districts.

The official order mentions "As you are aware, IMD, Bhubaneswar has predicted that a well-marked low-pressure area has been developed over east-central Bay of Bengal at 11:30 hours IST of today, the 21st October 2024 which is very likely to move west- northwestwards and intensify into a depression by October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by October 23, over east-central Bay of Bengal”.

It further added "Thereafter, it is very likely to move northwestwards and reach the northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24 morning. It is further very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of 24th and early morning October 25th, as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 KMPH gusting 120 KMPH,".

"Keeping in view, the schools in the above districts from October 23rd to 25th, shall remain closed as a precautionary measure. It is, therefore, requested to please take necessary action in this regard under intimation to this Department," stated the Office of Special Relif Commissioner in the order.

The cyclone is likely to occur in the state today. Due to this, the visit of President Murmur to the state has also been postponed. She was scheduled to travel to Bangriposi ,Uparbeda, Rairangpur, Puri, and Bhubaneswar.

The Cyclone Dana is a tropical cyclone that has been affecting parts of India in recent days. It has brought heavy rains and strong winds to several states, which has caused flooding and other damage. The cyclone is expected to continue to impact the region for the next few days.
