"NTA received several representations and court cases from NEET (UG) 2024 candidates raising concerns about time loss during the examination on May 5, 2024. These cases were reviewed, and the normalisation formula, as devised and adopted by the Supreme Court in its judgment dated June 13, 2018, was applied to address the time loss," stated the official notice.

"The loss of examination time was verified, and affected candidates were compensated with grace marks. Consequently, some candidates' marks could be 718 or 719," the NTA explained.

This announcement addresses concerns from candidates regarding the exclusion of category-wise NEET toppers' marks for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category in the latest NEET result notification. Additionally, candidates have sought clarification on the scores of 718 and 719.

NEET-UG is the qualifying entrance exam for admission to Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS), Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS), Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS), and BSc (H) Nursing courses.

India offers over 80,000 MBBS seats across more than 540 medical colleges. Of the 13,16,268 qualified candidates, 3,33,932 were from the unreserved category, 6,18,890 from the OBC category, 1,78,738 from SC, 68,479 from ST, and 1,16,229 from the EWS category. Additionally, 4,120 candidates from the Persons with Disabilities category also qualified for the exam.
