51,914 pupils failed the eleventh grade in 2023–24, compared to 54,755 in 2022–23, 7,246 in 2021–22, and just 2,169 in 2020–21. Furthermore, 46,622 eighth-grade pupils failed in 2023–2024 as a result of the Right to Education Act's repeal of the "no-detention policy."

Concerning the new 'Promotion Policy,' kids in classes V through VIII who do not pass the yearly exam will not be allowed to move up to the next grade, according to an anonymous Delhi Education Department official.

They will, however, have two months to retake the exam and have another chance to raise their grades.

Students need to receive at least 25 percent in each subject in order to pass this re-exam. Failing students will be put in the "repeat category," which means they will have to stay in the same class until the following semester.
