The decision is made in consideration of providing a second chance to students who couldn't pass the board exam.

The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) will conduct two SSLC examinations in 2025. The first exam is scheduled to take place in February or early March. The second will allow students who couldn't make it in all or a few subjects to retake the exam in a month or two which will be in May. The education minister of Meghalaya informed PTI.

The proposal to amend the MBOSE regulation for the SSLC exams 2011 was approved by the state cabinet last week.

The decision aligns with the ongoing implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which aims to support students by reducing the time lost between attempts.

In addition, the state cabinet has got away with the optional paper or best five papers provision from 2026-2027. Previously there was a provision, a student’s best five exams would only be considered. However, from 2026, the students must pass all six subjects in the Board examination.

Moreover, the cabinet approved the service rules for the following.

a) Meghalaya Public Service Rules

b) Meghalaya Subordinate Water resources

c) Engineering Service Rules 2024

d) Farmer's Empowerment Commission (Amendment) Bill,2024

Meghalaya will now conduct the SSLC exam twice a year, beginning from 2025, informed the Meghalaya Education Minister, Rakkam A. Sangma on Saturday. The decision is to support students by reducing the time lost between attempts.

Along with this amendment are made for service rules and optional papers.
