Mega-PTM hosted in Punjab, around 27 lakh parents attended. Elemntary and Secondary DEO visit several schools.
The Education Department of Punjab on Tuesday, October 22,2024 hosted mega parent-teachers’ meetings (PTMs) across 1,526 government schools. It was attended by thousands of parents, even the District Education Officer (DEO) for secondary , Dimple Madaan and DEO for elementary, Ravinder Kaur visited several schools in the district and had conversation with the parents, school management committee (SMC) member and panchayat members as well. They interacted regarding the initiatives undertaken by the education department.
They also asked for suggestions for improving the schools’ infrastructure, Madaan visited the following schools ; Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Haibowal Khurd; GSSS Cemetery Road; GSSS Ayali Khurd; and had conversation with teachers and parents .
On the other hand, the DEO (elementary) visited the primary schools , the Government Primary Smart Schools in Moti Nagar, Kila Raipur, and Jarkhar.
Principals had made the necessary arrangements for parents and SMC members for the occasion. The school staff informed the participants about different initiatives undertaken by the education department for betterment of students. Principal of GSSS Haibowal Khurd Kamaljeet Sharma showed gratitude and contentment with the successful organization of the mega PTM.
Primary DEO Ravinder Kaur directed schools to maintain cleanliness. She stated , “There is a paradigm shift in government schools, adopting best practices from private schools.”
While the Secondary DEO Dimple Madaan said, “Parents were informed about the results and they provided feedback on the google form, which was shared by the education department.”
Meanwhile, Dharmjeet Singh Dhillon, president of the lecture cadre union, said, "The education department has spent a huge amount on the PTM advertisements, boasting about providing security guards and cleaners. However, I want to share that the school is run by heads and principals. Many schools in the district are headless. Security guards and cleaners will not teach the students. It’s the teachers and principals who will manage the school."
Overall, the PTMs were successful. Both, the teachers and parents played their role and responsibility well.
