Manik Saha announced plans to merge approximately 165 schools in Tripura due to low student enrollment

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that approximately 165 schools with low student enrollment would be merged with nearby schools as identified through a comprehensive survey conducted by the state Education Department.

Speaking to reporters, Saha emphasized the necessity of consolidating schools to ensure quality education, dismissing concerns over the rationalization of students and teachers as politically motivated. He highlighted instances where schools operated with as few as four students and two or three teachers, asserting that merging such schools with larger institutions would benefit students and alleviate staffing shortages.

Saha detailed that the merger plan would consolidate schools located within a 1 km radius, aiming to optimize resources and enhance educational outcomes. Additionally, he addressed efforts to mitigate traffic congestion in Agartala, mentioning discussions with engineers regarding the construction of additional flyovers to improve vehicular movement across the city.
