The Kerala Government has begun with a new initiative. It aims at empowering parents to support their children’s education for better. On October 18,2024, Friday, the General Education Minister V Sivankutty unveiled set of four books named’ Parents with growing child’. The books provide guidance to parents on addressing their children’s educational needs from pre-primary to higher secondary level.

The programme is a part of Kerala’s broader vision to strengthen the partnership between schools, students, and parents. It is to promote well-rounded development.

It is specifically designed for parents of public-school students, the books cover the different educational stages, involving different levels from pre-primary, lower primary, Upper primary and high school high secondary. The goal of government is to enhance involvement of parents in education. It provides detailed advice on how to support children’s growth, development and their learning needs.

Minister Sivankutty focuses on Kerala’s leadership in education and mentioned that the books were among the key recommendations from a special focus group on parenting education, which was a part of the state’s curriculum.

The books are not just resources but also the base for the comprehensive parent education programme, which is led by trained teachers. The state remains only state in the nation to include parenting education as a significant component of its educational framework.

The government hope that this initiative will encourage rise in parental engagement. And it will further strengthen the Kerala’s reputation as a pioneer in public education.

Parental engagement is a crucial component of a child's educational journey. It involves active participation and communication between parents and the school community, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment for learning. Kerala look forward to transforming education and the method of development and growing among students, by focusing on holistic point of view. And, now the state has introduce set of four books for the same.
