IITians placement Rates 2024: 38 percent of students remain unemployed this year

IITians are facing challenges in job placement this year. Around 38 percent of students don’t get placement among 23 campuses.

The session 2024 of the India Institute of Technology (IIT) facing challenges and a drastic downfall has been observed in the placement record this year. According to the Right to Information ( RTI ) plea filled by an IITian, Kanpur alumni Dr. Dheeraj Singh around 8,000 students from 23 campuses facing unemployment at the start of their careers and remain unemployed this year which led to a huge concern  for the  students and parents as well .

In 2024 among 21,500 students who registered for the placement only 13, 410 secured their jobs and 38 percent still searching for their jobs contacting the alumni and reaching for help with the engineering companies and firms.  In a recent post on Linkedin  Dheeraj Singh shared the problems faced by the students of IIT Bombay and Birala Institute of Technology and Science other institutions have been contacted by the alumni seeking jobs.  According to the report of RTI, in 2024 - 329 students were not placed and 171 students 2022 batch are still jobless.

According to vice-chancellors,  the BITS group stated that 20- 30 percent  of placement records get lower every year, and if any institution claimed to place all the students then the quality jobs of may decline. The hiring declined to 30 percent and due to elections companies have put wait and wait-and-watch policy. Over 7,000 students are yet to be placed via campus across all 23 campuses. The downfall of placement would affect the mental health of many students and  it is a  serious issue for many engineering colleges 61 were of post-graduation who are still unplaced and IITians established the concern of job crisis .
