IIT Roorkee partnership with Uzbekistan for research and education

Towards a significant step in Indo-Uzbek academic collaboration, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has signed agreement with the Samarkand State University (SamSU) . The agreement involves a letter of intent to launch a joint Master's Degree Programme (JMDP) and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote research and partnership in hydrology, environmental science, sustainable energy and sustainable development goals (SDGs)
The agreements have been signed by the Professor Khalmuradov Rustam Ibragimovich, Rector of SamSU, and Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee. Along with them some key faculty members from both universities as well.

Beginning with, the Joint Master's Degree Programme (JMDP) will be curated between IIT Roorkee's Department of Hydrology and from SamSU's Department of Hydrometeorology. The programme will address global conercs susch as water scarcity, climate change and environmental degradation.
The programme will provide insights to students and facilities of SamSu with advanced expertise in water resource management modelling and sustainability. Via this collaboration the IIT Roorkee will explore the long-standing expertise and experience to provide actionable solutions to real world problems in hydrology and the other related fields in Uzbekistan.

While addressing the audience during, Professor Pant highlighted the fact that the collaboration will contribute to sustainable solutions for environmental issues and water enhancing academic excellence and societal impact. `

Similarly the Professor Ibragimovich emphasised how the agreements shall underscore the commitment of both institutions to addressing pressing climate challenges and creating a platform for innovative research and education.

Along with them the other key speakers from the event included Professor Vimal Chandra Srivastava, the Dean of International Relations at IIT Roorkee. He highlighted the partnership's importance in expanding IIT Roorkee's international footprint and fostering cross-cultural academic exchanges.

While Dr Muhtor Nasirov, the Vice-Rector of International Relations at SAMSU, hopes to look forward to the collaboration's potential to drive global environmental sustainability and joint innovations.

And lastly, Professor Naveen Navani the Dean of Academic Affairs at IIT Roorkee stated that the MoUs will create new opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, research initiatives, and knowledge-sharing.
