IIT Madras Professor awarded with Honorary Member award

In a proud event, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) madras professor has been honoured by the international construction Materials body. Prof.Ravindra Gettu has been awarded with ‘Honorary Member’, the highest recognition of RILEM (International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems, and Structure). Prof Gettu had served as RILEM’s President from 2018 -2021. He is the first and only Asian to achieve so, in the timeline of 78-year history, a press release told so.

Presently the professor is the V.S. Raju Chair Professor in the department of civil Engineering at IIT Madras. He has led the technology development and implementation of Fibre reinforced concrete (FRC) in India.

While expressing his gratitude to RELIM for the honour and appreciation, Prof. Gettu remarked how he had a wonderful opportunity of leading the world’s most significant organization of researchers in construction material

Some of his areas of research include fracture mechanics of concrete and rock, nonlinear behaviour of cement-based materials, high strength, fibre reinforced and self-compacting concretes, sustainability, and the effective use of chemical admixtures.

While Prof Manu Santhanam, the Dean of industrial Consultancy and Sponsored research at IIT Madras and active member of the organization, mentioned about his presidency and establishment of RILEM Youth Council and online workshop series

“His excellent stewardship of this organization through the difficult period of the Covid pandemic exemplifies his commitment to sustaining quality research and collaboration,” Prof Santhanam added.
