A four-year BTech, a five-year Integrated Dual Degree MTech, a two-year MPharm, and PhD courses are among the many programs offered by the Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Technology at IIT BHU, Varanasi.
The department was originally known as the Department of Pharmaceutics. The purpose of these courses is to provide knowledge on a range of topics related to drug research, testing, and the safe and efficient administration of medications, including drug delivery systems.
As per the institute's claim, the courses offer a distinctive blend of biological concepts with engineering and technical ideas to create proficient methods for planning, acquiring, and assessing different medications and drug delivery systems.
1. The Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Technology's BTech program:
It began offering a four-year BTech program in pharmacy in 2013. IIT BHU's BTech program offers a special combination of courses from science, engineering, pharmacy, humanities, etc.
The student will study foundational courses in pharmacy core over the first two years, as well as basic science and engineering courses. In the fourth semester, the student will work on an intriguing exploration project.
Apart from open elective courses from related or other engineering fields and a demanding project during the sixth and seventh semesters, students will be exposed to the advanced pharmacy core and stream courses in the subsequent two years.
Admissions are handled by the Joint IIT Entrance Exam (JEE).
2. Five years of coursework are available for the department's Integrated Dual Degree (BTech and MTech) in Pharmacy. The courses are designed to impart knowledge on various aspects of Pharmaceutical sciences and engineering including drug design, drug development, testing, and safe and effective use of drugs/medicines and drug delivery systems.
The five-year research-oriented IDD curriculum, which offers opportunities for research projects and thesis work, includes a number of advanced courses in various streams, including formulation design and development, drug design and development, drug evaluation and toxicology, and natural drug product development, in addition to the prerequisite courses of the four-year BTech program. For this too, admissions are made through the JEE exam conducted jointly by the IITs.
3. Two-year M Pharm programs are available in four specialization areas offered by the department: pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, and pharmacognosy.
The GATE score determines acceptance into the program.
4. PhD Program: Four research specializations are available for the PhD program: pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, and pharmacognosy.
GATE/NEET score or employer-sponsored interview process before the test.
