IIT Kanpur launches new fellowship for their PhD students

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has launched the fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence (FARE). It is new initiative aims at recognizing and supporting exceptional PhD students who demonstrate outstanding academic and research capabilities. The purpose of the fellowship is to encourage the completion of doctorate and at the same time promoting quality research output, as the press release claims. Overall, its goal is to support students in achieving academic and research milestones, it provides recognition and tangible support.

The institute invites application from full-time PhD students are currently enrolled at IIT Kanpur. To the students who submit their thesis within five years of enrolment in the PhD programme. In addition, the student who submit their thesis within the period of five years and six months are also eligible. The fellowship duration will be adjusted accordingly.

For being eligible for the fellowship, the criteria are, at least one accepted or published research paper as the first author in a reputed journal or conference proceedings, directly streaming from their PhD research. The fellowship is applicable to students from the Y18 batch.

The fellowship provides financial support for up to 12 months. The stipend provided will be equivalent to that on institute, post-doctoral fellows and in addition research-related grants as well. The present thesis supervisor will continue to play the role of mentor. Even though collaborations with other faculty members during the fellowship will be allowed as it is mentioned in the release. It will provide beneficial opportunity to the students.
