IIT Kanpur has initiated a campaign aimed at raising awareness about the newly implemented criminal codes in India

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) has recently conducted an awareness campaign to educate students about India's new criminal codes, including the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023.

Led by the institute's dedicated cell and guided by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the campaign aimed to inform the IIT Kanpur community about these significant legal updates.

The Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 will replace the Indian Penal Code, the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita 2024 will supplant the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023 will take the place of the Indian Evidence Act.

These new laws are crafted to meet the needs of contemporary India, addressing issues like cybercrime, social justice, and evidence procedures. They strive to simplify legal language, bolster victim rights, and decolonize the legal framework.

Set to take effect on July 1, 2024, the implementation of these laws is imminent. Through this awareness campaign, IIT Kanpur has enhanced the community's understanding and readiness to adapt to these crucial legal changes.
