The Indian Institute of Skills (IIS), which aims to develop a workforce industry-ready for Industry 4.0 with cutting-edge technology and practical training across a range of trades including factory automation, digital manufacturing, mechatronics, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and additive manufacturing, was officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today in Mumbai.
The institute was founded using a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in partnership with Tata IIS, a section 8 business under Tata Trusts, and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India.
Advanced Industrial Automation & Robotics, Industrial Automation Fundamentals, Advanced ARC Welding Techniques, Additive Manufacturing, Electric Vehicle Battery Specialist, and 2&3 Wheeler EV Technician are the six specialised courses that the institute will first offer. In the near future, the institute will also provide applicants with more hostel accommodations to improve their educational experience.
The institute will initially contain state-of-the-art laboratories created in collaboration with more than 15 OEMs from India and throughout the world. This will guarantee that students have real industrial equipment and practical experience at a reasonable cost. After completing their training, they will be prepared to join cutting-edge businesses such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and EV manufacturing.
IIS will offer short-term courses in partnership with industry partners, such as Fanuc India for Industrial Robotics, SMC India for Industrial Automation, and Taj Skyline for Culinary & Core Housekeeping, in addition to its core programs.
"Organisations such as IIS play a critical role in developing a workforce prepared for the future and realising the Prime Minister's dream of making India the 'Skill Capital of the World.'" According to Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State, Ministry of Education, Government of India, "by providing our youth with cutting-edge expertise, this institute is not only opening doors to opportunities within India but is also positioning them to compete and excel in global markets."
