IGNOU initiates an MA program in studies of the Bhagavad Gita

According to an official statement, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the opening of a new MA program in Bhagavad Gita Studies for the academic year 2024-2025. Beginning in July 2024, the curriculum will be made available via open and distance learning (ODL).

There are 500 spots available for the course, which has a 2 to 4 year duration. It will have an 80-credit format and use English as its primary language of instruction.

"With the approval of competent authority, the programme MA Bhagavadgita Studies (MABGS) will be offered through ODL mode from the July 2024 session," according to the official announcement.

Qualification Standards

To be eligible to attend, candidates must have completed their bachelor's degree or above from an accredited university. On December 19, 2023, at the university's 81st Academic Council Meeting, the course was approved.
The total cost of the two-year programme is Rs 12,600, or Rs 6,300 annually.
