The Gujrat government has expanded the Eklavya Model Residential Schools to 44, offering free, quality education to over 11,000 students from tribal communities since 2003 catering to students from class 6 to 12with modern facilities.

Gujrat’s Eklavya Model Residential Schools have broadened to 44 with enrolment of 11,000 students from tribal communities since its inception in 2003. These schools offer free, quality education to students from class 6 to 12 with modern facilities including high tech classrooms, 6 interactive LED’s, smart technology and green boards for interactive learning.

 

According to Tribal Minister Kuber Dindor, more than 12 lakh tribal student have received pre-matric scholarships and 2.5 lakhs students have benefited from post-matric scholarships. The principal of EMRS, Vishnu Kumar highlighted the school’s modern facilities including smart classrooms, computer labs with WIFI, sports facilities and well stocked library, all provided to students free of cost. This is to emphasize the school’s goal to provide comprehensive education to students from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to empower them with brighter future.

 

The Eklavya Model Residential Schools have separate hostels for girls and boys with canteen offering nutritious meals. To support students, the government provides a uniform grant of Rs 4,000 per student easing financial strains and fostering high quality education. The admission process under this scheme is through a centralised test and qualified students are assigned a school nearby within 30 km radius ensuring convenient access to education.

The Gujrat State Tribal Education society an autonomous body under the state’s tribal development department oversees the management of these school’s including 44 EMRS, 43 Girl Literacy Residential Schools (GLRS), 12 Model Schools and 2 Sainik Schools to provide quality education and opportunities.
