A phony notification regarding new medical institutions for the 2024-25 academic year that has been making the rounds on social media has prompted the National Medical Commission (NMC) to issue a caution. The NMC emphasises that visitors should only access official information via its website.
A false notification claiming that new medical colleges will be established for the 2024-2025 academic year is making the rounds on social media, and the National Medical Commission (NMC) has warned prospective doctors about it.
The NMC explained in response to this misunderstanding that it has only released a list of applications that have been examined by the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB). This list does not indicate that the 113 suggested colleges' applications have been accepted. On the official NMC website, the ultimate determination about the approval or disapproval of these applications will be made public.
The NMC's official notification states: "In reference to MARB's public notice dated 6 July 2024, it has been observed that some fake news has been published/aired in print and electronic media claiming that MARB has made final decisions on 113 applications for the establishment of new medical colleges for the academic year 2024-25."
The notification further clarifies: "The NMC's Public Notice dated 6 July 2024 only lists the applications for which MARB has taken final decisions. This does not mean approval for all 113 applications. The decisions, whether approval or disapproval, have already been communicated to the respective medical institutions and will be posted on the NMC website in due course."
In a statement highlighting its dedication to openness, the NMC advised stakeholders and students to get their news exclusively from its official website. The notice ends by cautioning the public and other interested parties to ignore any false or deceptive information that appears in print or digital media.
