DU approves EPF benefits for contractual employees, East Asian Languages Programmes, increasing fees of Part-time Medical Officers and more.

The University of Delhi’s executive council (EC) has approved the implementation of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme for contractual employees of the institution.

The decision comes after the council’s 1272nd meeting. It was organized on Monday, October 14,2024. It was under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh held at Convention Hall.

The meeting began with honouring Padma Vibushan Ratan Tata by two-minute silence. The VC highlighted on EPM implementation; it was in consideration with the finance committee’s recommendations. The decision was well researched and thought. Moving ahead, Prof. confirmed that the scheme would be introduced beginning from October 2024, after extensive discussions on associated legalities.

Delhi University's Registrar, Dr. Vikas Gupta, presented the meeting agenda. It incorporated deliberations on the recommendations from the University’s Academic Council (AC) which was organized on October 10, 2024.Among the decisions, the EC has approved rise in the contractual fees of Part-time Medical Officers (GDMOs) , from Rs 45,000 , it has now increased to Rs 55,000 per month. This decision too will be in effect from October 2024. The new remuneration will include a 5% annual increment starting each April.

Meanwhile, the EC has also approved notional pay hike for retiring employees in alignment with the finance committee’s recommendations. Moreover, an Office Memorandum concerning old pension scheme benefits for deceased National Pension Scheme employees as well, was considered and approved.

Further, in academic advancement approval to launch East Asian Language courses at Ramjas College, Hansraj College, and Ram Lal Anand College was approved. These colleges will now offer courses in Korean, Chinese and Japanese language. And the council also endorsed the introduction of a Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) course at the University College of Medical Sciences and a super-speciality DM course in Pediatric and Neonatal Anaesthesia at Lady Hardinge Medical College.

The Delhi University is all set to introduce transforming initiatives in coming years.
