DoE directs Delhi school teachers to refrain from use of phone in classes and even for students .
The Directorate of Education (DoE) of the Delhi Government has now prohibited the use of mobile phones in the premises of school. It includes, classrooms, libraries, playgrounds and across. It is applicable for both students and teachers.
Moreover, the schools are instructed to set up helplines that can be used, for parents and students for essential calls in case of emergencies. In a circular released on Tuesday, October 22, the DoE stated, Teachers and staff are prohibited from using mobile phones during teaching and learning activities in classrooms, laboratories, and libraries, including during arrangement periods."
It has further directed the teachers to utilise the tools, make use of smart boards, projectors and K-Yan devices which are available in schools.
K-Yan is an innovative computer projector, and interactive board into a single unit.
In addition, the circular also outlines guidelines for effectively using arrangement periods. These are the periods when the regular teachers assigned to a specific class timetable for a specific subject is absent or in not available.
The step is taken with the purpose to enhance learning and reducing distractions. Smartphone can pose some serious distractions and disturbance to learning. Prohibiting smart phones across spaces in school can help teachers and students focus more on teaching and learning respectively. Post pandemic, students bringing smart phone to school has raised, however now the DoE has directed the schools to prohibit it. In addition, it has also asked to make use of arrangement periods at most. The goal is to increase productivity and learning.
