The syllabus of the new programmes includes sections on cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, data science, machine learning, cyber security, disaster management, and clean and green energy.
Delhi Technological University (DTU) is poised to introduce new undergraduate programmes with flexible entry and exit options from the 2024-2025 academic session. Additionally, DTU is launching an MTech by Research programme. These new programmes will align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by offering multiple entry and exit points.
DTU has also introduced five-year integrated BSc and MSc programmes in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biotechnology, and economics.
The MTech by Research programme aims to enhance the institute's research activities. Unlike traditional MTech programmes with three coursework semesters and one dissertation, the MTech by Research will consist of two-thirds research and one-third coursework. Admission to this programme will be based on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
This new MTech programme will help students efficiently pursue PhDs or decide if they should opt for one.
“With MTech by research, the chances of getting placed in consultancies and research organisations will improve. Also, there are fewer chances for these students to shift from technology to management domains,” said Prateek Sharma, Vice Chancellor of DTU.
He added that the new courses' syllabus aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) and follows the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) guidelines for the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP).
The syllabus of the new programmes includes topics on artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, data science, machine learning, cybersecurity, disaster management, and clean and green energy.
The new programmes are being offered within existing departments, so there is currently no need to hire additional faculty. "Existing faculty will teach the new courses. If a need arises, we will start the recruitment process," he noted.
DTU also plans to establish institutions in other regions. “Many alumni in the Middle East have shown interest in helping us set up a centre there,” said the Vice Chancellor, though he mentioned that this is still in the initial stages.
DTU is reaching out to industries to support labs and centres. “We have also collaborated with industry partners like Samsung,” the Vice Chancellor added. The university aims to provide R&D support to industries and foster a symbiotic relationship.
DTU has opened five centres of excellence and research, including the Centre of Excellence in Energy Transition, Centre of Executive Education, Centre of Excellence for Drone Technology, Centre of Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction, and Centre for Community Development and Research.
