Delhi Government Plans mental health counselling for government schools after the success of pilot counselling.

The Delhi Government has initiated with a mindful step, the government plans mental health counselling for government schools. The Delhi Education Minister Atishi has directed the Directorate of Education (DoE) to draft a blueprint for mental health and guidance for students enrolled in government schools.

It must be noted, the pilot phase has been conducted across 20 government schools of Delhi. Around 20,000 students received counselling in last year. Educational and Vocational Guidance Counsellors (EVGC) and School psychologists provide support to students. They help students to maintain their mental health. In addition, group sessions and social-emotional learning is taught to students, to manage stress and emotions.

Later, Atishi asked the Educational and Vocational Guidance Counsellors and the student psychologist for the feedback post their sessions. After the success of the pilot phase, now the counselling will begin in Delhi Government schools.

The purpose is to understand the mental health of students and help them deal with concerns. In this regard, Education Minister Atishi asked the officials to create a blueprint.

During the discussion, the school psychologist discussed with he education minister , how time to time counselling can help students to meet the mental health needs and connect the to studies. They mentioned how form an early age, children are stressed for various reasons, which has poor effect on their mental health. However, there is not much awareness about mental health. This is the reason, problem increases, as there is no timely treatment. But in schools, they are trying to identify problems in children and trying to solve it counselling.

Focusing on the importance of mental health, the minister said” Emphasising the importance of mental health, the minister said, "A healthy mind is essential for overall well-being. Through this initiative, we aim to provide better health services to school students, contributing to a healthy society and nation."

Delhi Government in the past years have taken several steps to improve the quality of Delhi Government Schools, with better facilities and now with considerations of student’s mental health.
