Delhi DoE mandates inclusive practices in all 12 schools by November 5 , the schools must submit an Action Taken Report (ATR)
The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has directed all 12 special schools for students with disabilities, in focusing on the need for the strict adherence guidelines set by the inclusive education Branch (IEB)
According to the October 22,2024 directive, the school heads must submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) by November 5, it must include details of their compliance efforts with the Rights of Person with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016, and the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The orders have made it mandatory for all 19 provisions which aim at inclusive education to be met. The provisions include admitting students to appropriate classes, free aids, providing online assessments and other communication skills as well.
In addition, the schools are required to develop structured schedules for special education teachers, maintain record of students’ disability certificates and Unique disability IDs (UDID), facilitate regular assessments for each student and comprehensive case studies.
To meet the physical, psychological and social requirements of students, shools have also been directed to create recreational rooms, multipurpose halls, emergency rooms and time-out zones and to install CCTV camera to increase safety measures for the students with disabilities.
"Schools are also required to create adequate facilities, including recreational rooms, multipurpose halls, an emergency room and time-out zones, to support the physical, psychological, medical and social needs and also installation of CCTV cameras for children with disabilities," the statement noted.
The purpose is to ensure students are provided with apt facilities and learning environment.
