CM Sawant confirms IIT Goa Campus is to be established in Rivona Village

A new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus will be established in Rivona, South Goa, as confirmed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday. In a written statement to the assembly, it was revealed that the central government's site selection committee had inspected and approved the location.

The approval is contingent on the state government ensuring proper connectivity and providing essential amenities such as roads, power, and water supply. Additionally, changes in land zoning and relaxation of the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) requirements are necessary to accommodate the new campus.

Currently, the revenue department is verifying the land's title documents. The site in Rivona was chosen after earlier proposed locations faced opposition from local residents. As an institute of national importance, IIT Goa is expected to create numerous job opportunities for both teaching and non-teaching staff, including local hires.

The government has assured that environmental safeguards will be implemented throughout the approval process to protect the green cover around the new campus.
