Chhattisgarh has extended the summer break for schools to June 25

Citing extreme heat, the Chhattisgarh government has extended summer vacation for all state schools till June 25, according to a Monday announcement from an official. The directive was released late on Sunday night by the state's department of school instruction.

The meteorological bureau said that on Sunday, the highest temperatures in Raipur and Rajnandgaon were approximately 39 degrees Celsius. The summer vacation was originally planned to run from April 22 to June 15. But in order to protect the health of the pupils, the authorities decided to prolong the holiday due to the persistently high temperatures. The new date of school reopening is June 26, 2024.

Over the next four days, isolated places are expected to have thunderstorms with lightning and gusty gusts, according to the Meteorological Centre in Raipur. Furthermore, in the next four to five days, there is a good chance that the southwest monsoon may spread into further areas of the state.

The MeT center recorded the following temperatures on Sunday: 39.3 degrees Celsius in Raipur, 39.2 degrees Celsius in Rajnandgaon, 40.2 degrees Celsius in Pendra, 30.8 degrees Celsius in Bilaspur, 32.6 degrees Celsius in Ambikapur, and 35.2 degrees Celsius in Jagdalpur.
