CBSE schools directed update names under PM SHRI scheme on SARAS portal, the schools can register for the session 2024-25 when the portal opens.
The Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE) has issued a new directive. It invites schools to apply online to add the PM SHRI prefix to their names. The schools who are eligible for this update can now register on the official website of CBSE SARAS portal under the “Change in Name of School” category once the online application link reopens in the next academic session 2025-26.
At present the SARAS portal is closed for the session 2023-24. However, the board has assured schools that they will be able to apply once it become accessible.
The Board has mandated all the schools for applying for the PM SHRI prefix upload, as official letter have been issued by the Ministry of Education, Government of India (GOI) to verify its eligibility. The PM-SHRI scheme was launched last year on September 7,2022 by the GOI.
The purpose is to transform select schools into model institutions and emphasising on quality’s education and equipping students with 21st-Centrury skills.
A budget for approx. Rs 27,000 crore has been allocated for five years. The OM SHRI initiative plans to upgrade 14,500 centrally administered and state government -run schools including Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodya Vidyalyas, which aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP).
In order to enable the Board to process such requests of updating the names of all such schools of concerned State Government and Government aided Schools who have received such sanction from the Ministry of Education, Government of India, It is requested to kindly issue instructions under your respective jurisdiction , to individually submit their online application through online mode on CBSE SARAS portal https://saras.cbse.gov.in/SARAS under 'Change in Name of School' category as and when the online link is re-opened by the Board.
The schools selected will serve as exemplars of NEP 2020’s implementation across India.
