In the midst of anger over the poor board exam results of its affiliated state-run schools, the CBSE will create a sub-regional office in Agartala, an official announced Monday. After the BJP took over Tripura in 2018, the English-medium curriculum of the CBSE was implemented, and 125 state-run schools were renamed Vidyajyoti Schools.

While 61% of the students from these institutions passed the CBSE class 10 exams this year, just 59% of them passed the class 12 exams. In the past, these schools were run by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) and taught Bengali as their primary language.

The Education Department's Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Abhijit Samajpati, stated that the state government will provide the CBSE office with appropriate land in order to improve the state's educational infrastructure.

According to him, the office will be temporarily housed at a Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya facility. According to Samajpati, the sub-regional office would offer the CBSE-affiliated schools a range of services, such as help with admissions, topic corrections, updates on student records, test center coordination, mark sheet corrections, grievance redress, and assistance with teacher training.

In order to facilitate the efficient administration of the examination procedure and student development initiatives, it will also collaborate closely with state education authorities and other local educational establishments. He stated that this program will increase learning chances for children across the state and strengthen the educational environment.

Following the poor results, the opposition has claimed that the government was tampering with the future of thousands of pupils who attended Bengali-medium schools up till class 8 and were made to take the board exams in English, which led to the disaster. The establishment of a CBSE sub-regional office in Agartala aims to strengthen support for state-run schools, addressing educational challenges and enhancing learning opportunities for students across Tripura.
