BHU allows pass-out Bangladeshi students to continue residing in the campus hostel without any fee
Banaras Hindu University(BHU) has permitted students from Bangladesh who have completed their higher studies to continue staying in campus hostel. The decision comes amidst the ongoing protest against the quota system in jobs, movement, and instability in Bangladesh.
The decision was made when students were required to vacate the campus hostel upon finishing their course. The university has granted permission to students to stay until the situation in their homeland gets better and stable.
The coordinator at BHU’s Internation Centre, Prof. SVS Raju stated during a conversation that, BHU understands the potential challenges these students might face returning home. Therefore BHU has decided to permit those wishing to stay in hostels.
The students will be assured of all the necessary assistance, they can stay on campus without any charges for their extended stay. If these students face any challenge during their stay it will be addressed promptly.
The protests in Bangladesh began last month, as university students demanded the abolishment of the quota system in civil service jobs. 30% of the seats in government jobs are reserved for the families of veterans who fought in Bangladesh’s war of independence against Pakistan in 1971. With the expansion of the movement, several clashes erupted. Over 300 people lost their lives. Prime Minister, Sheikh Haseena has fled. The country is facing unrest.
In between all the protests in Bangladesh, BHU came forward for their students, releasing the challenges and risks the students might face in Bangladesh. They allowed Bangladeshi Students to continue their stay in campus hostel until the situation in their country gets better. They will be provided with all the necessities and they won’t be charged anything for the stay.
