The Banaras Hindu University launches a week-long campaign to raise suicide prevention awareness. The campaign is being conducted for the upcoming Suicide prevention day, which is celebrated on September 10,2024. The campaign begins from September 4 ,2024 till September 10,2024.
The series of event are being conducted to raise awareness and engage students at different levels and encourage help-seeking behaviour than isolation and promote wellbeing. The theme for the week is “Changing the narratives on suicide-start the conversation,” to lay significance on shifting perception of suicide from one of stigma and silence to understanding and support.
To make the event engaging and a effective, the university has organized various activities. It includes poster-making, open-mic sessions, slogan writings, a play, an interactive talk which are centred around the theme.
The campaign will have participation from the students of main campus, from the south campus which is situated at Barkachha and university schools , it is spearheaded by the dean of students. It is coordinated by the Associate Dean of Students of Student Development and the student counsellor with significant contributions from Dr SRK fellows.
Over the years the concern of mental health and suicide has been seriously looked upon. The institutions have taken steps to reduce the stress and increase encouragement to talk rather than take extreme steps that might cost their lives. It becomes essential to create a safe environment and have inclusivity within campus. The issues raised by the students should be taken seriously.
BHU has often taken the initiative towards betterment of students , few days back the institutional the Bangladeshi graduate students live longer in hostel until the situation at their home place is not improved and now the campaign for suicide prevention.

The creative and innovative university was founded by the great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, in 1916, through close cooperation with great personalities like Dr Annie Besant, who viewed it as the University of India.
