In addition to the Agnibaan rocket launch, IIT Madras has had a busy year filled with other significant accomplishments.

The top three include the founding of the Wadhwani School of Data Science & AI and the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Working on significant issues with immediate social importance is the Department of Data Science and AI at the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, which was kindly financed by IIT Madras Distinguished alumnus Sunil Wadhwani.

In 2022, the International Interdisciplinary Master's degree programs (I2MP) were introduced, offering students cutting-edge knowledge and abilities that go beyond conventional engineering specialties through a creative curriculum. This vocation marks the graduation of the first group of I2MP graduates.

Every year, the I2MP receives more than 200 applications from a wide range of nations and backgrounds, such as Ethiopia, Nepal, Mauritius, Syria, and Syria. These students do a research project in their field of interest in addition to multiple core and optional courses at IIT Madras.

Dr. Brian K. Kobilka, the 2012 Chemistry Nobel Laureate, was the main guest. Professor V Kamakoti, the director of IIT Madras, together with teachers, staff, and students attended the convocation, which was presided over by Dr. Pawan Goenka, the chairman of the board of governors at IIT Madras.

Robert Lefkowitz and Dr. Brian K. Kobilka found that the receptor resembled light-absorbing receptors found in the retina. Subsequent research revealed that the G-protein-coupled receptors are a class of receptors that have a common appearance and mode of operation.

Today, this type of receptor is exploited by around half of all drugs.

Dr. Brian K. Kobilka, the 2012 Chemistry Nobel Prize winner, expressed his congratulations to the graduating students and prize winners by saying, "I do not consider myself to be exceptional in any way."

My current career serves as an example of how the typical person may attain some level of success through a variety of means, such as perseverance, hard effort, a little bit of luck, and a great deal of support from friends, family, and coworkers.

I am astounded by how frequently I was at the right place at the right time, with the right people, as I reflect over my career."

"I think there are five factors that played an important role in my career," continued Dr. Brian K. Kobilka. I discovered my passion first. something I cherished doing. a difficult objective I wished to achieve. Second, I was able to locate mentors and role models who helped me at various points in my career.

Thirdly, I became aware of my advantages and disadvantages and devised strategies to capitalize on my advantages and mitigate my disadvantages.

Fourthly, my life was balanced. a happy family life away from the classroom. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I didn't fear failing. I managed to draw lessons from my mistakes."
