The state of Assam at present is dealing with increased heatwave conditions. The high temperature has now prompted the authorities in Dibrugarh district to modify school timings. The decision comes in consideration to safeguard students from this extreme weather.

On September 20,2024 the Office of the District Elementary Education issued an order. It has announced adjustments to school schedules for the institutions affiliated with AHSEC, SEBA ,AICSE and CBSE. The purpose is to minimize the impact of the ongoing heatwaves on students.
As per the order, the schools will now begin at 8 in the morning. For assemblies, they will be held indoors with reduced durations. Schools are advised to make sure there is proper ventilation in classrooms. They are also asked to organize alternate power backups in case there is outages. Moreover, students are given permission to wear sandals instead of shoes and may forgo waistcoats or ties for comfort.

In addition, A local school driver also mentioned that schools had been closed earlier this year due to unseasonably high temperatures. "Usually, by this time, with Durga Puja approaching, it’s cooler. But this year, it’s still quite hot,” he said.

Assam is currently experiencing heatwave conditions. Temperatures have soared above normal, reaching 38°C in some areas. This early heatwave is unusual for Assam, which typically experiences cooler weather during this time of year.

Heatwaves can have significant impacts on students' health, learning, and overall well-being. High temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses, dehydration, and difficulty concentrating. Additionally, extreme heat can disrupt school schedules and outdoor activities, impacting students' education and social experiences.

The guidelines are in effect until further notice, as authorities work to combat the ill effects of the heatwave. Preventing students from falling ill, dehydration or any other harmful effects.

These adjustments may vary depending on the specific region and the intensity of the heatwave. For the most up-to-date information on school timing changes in Assam it is advised to check respective school websites.
