A new academic calendar for 2024–2025 has been made available on the website of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This development follows a decision from the Supreme Court permitting technical colleges to extend their admittance deadline until October 23. Students are notified by the website that October 23 is the new deadline for first-year admission to technical colleges.

Previously, September 15 was the deadline for applications to these kinds of schools. For independent schools that offer Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) programs, the extension of the admissions deadline is not applicable. Such universities are obligated to follow their initial, unaltered admissions timelines.

Further, AICTE has changed October 23 as the deadline for lateral admissions for second-year students in technical colleges. The previous deadline was September 15. According to the AICTE's updated schedule, technical first-year students' classes will start on October 23. Meanwhile, the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) is no longer required to grant prior clearance to central, state, or private universities, according to a notification from the University Grants Commission (UGC).

As per the most recent announcement, universities can provide undergraduate, postgraduate, and postgraduate diploma programs in management, computer application, and travel & tourism in ODL and/or online modes without first obtaining clearance, recommendation, or NOC from AICTE. "The Commission considered the communication received from AICTE stating that it is not mandatory for the State/Private Universities to take AICTE approval to run Technical programmes," as per the Hon'ble Supreme Court's ruling in Bharathidasan University and Others Vs. All India Council for Technical Education and Others (2001) 8 SCC 676, says the notification.
