The English and Foreign Languages University known as EFLU is a central university for English and foreign languages located in Hyderabad, India established in 1958. This is the main campus, situated in the heart of Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. This is the oldest of the campuses of the university. The campus has 7 schools with 26 departments. Apart from graduate, postgraduate, and research programmes, EFLU also offers postgraduate diplomas, and distance and part-time mode courses. The University has two regional campuses —in Shillong and Lucknow, to cater for the needs of the language practitioners of the North-eastern and Northern parts of India respectively. The Shillong Campus was founded in 1973 as the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) North-East Campus. The primary goal of this campus was to address the linguistic and research requirements of the region while offering top-notch teacher training. The campus currently provides a range of courses, including B.A. English and B.A. Mass Communication and Journalism, M.A. English, M.A. Linguistics, and PhD programs in English Literature and English Language Education. It encompasses a diverse range of academic units, including the School of English Language, School of Language Sciences, School of European Languages, School of Arab and Asian Studies, School of Literary Studies, and School of Inter-Disciplinary Studies. Alongside these, there are also Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma courses available in languages such as French, German, and Spanish. This campus beautifully merges education with its scenic surroundings to create a vibrant learning environment. The Lucknow Campus was started in 1979 it trains English teachers from northern India's universities and colleges. The campus also offers postgraduate and research degrees. In Lucknow, old and new blend seamlessly, creating a unique city. The campus hosts refresher courses for educators, proficiency programs for learners, and contact sessions for those in the Postgraduate Certificate in the Teaching of English. A Postgraduate Diploma in Communication is also available. All programs are held in person, not through distance learning. This campus exemplifies the university's dedication to quality education and teacher development. The campus offers various facilities, including the University Press established in 1977 for publishing academic works. The University Health Centre, staffed by medical professionals, provides medical care and offers health insurance coverage for students. The Counselling Centre aims to enhance mental health and well-being. Hostel facilities are provided for non-residents, with separate options for Indian and foreign students. The Placement Cell arranges job opportunities for final semester students, and the NSS Office, formed in 2017, engages students in community service.
