Stella Maris College is an institution of higher education for women in Chennai, India. It is an autonomous college affiliated to the University of Madras and is partly residential. Beginning in a small one-story building on 15 August 1947, with an enrollment of 32 students, the college has at present over 5,500 students housed in large buildings on the campus of "The Cloisters", Cathedral Road, Chennai. The college became autonomous in 1987. The institution has been reaccredited by the NAAC with an A grade and a CGPA of 3.57. The college offers a diverse range of departments including Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Science, Economics, English, Fine Arts, Food Processing and Quality Control, History, Human Resource Management etc. it offers 19 undergraduate and 12 postgraduate programmes. Students have the option to choose from a variety of languages including Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit, and French for both Shift I and Shift II. However, for the B.VOC program, the language choices are limited to Tamil and French. This allows students to select languages that align with their preferences and academic pursuits within the curriculum. The college offers a range of facilities to enhance the students' experience and convenience. There are five hostels on the campus, Banking services are easily accessible. The DTP Centre is a valuable resource, offering stationery and services like photocopying, lamination, and binding for both faculty and students. This support aids in various academic and administrative tasks. Additionally, the college houses a canteen, health food center, and juice shop, providing nourishing food options for the entire college community. These facilities collectively contribute to creating a conducive and enriching environment for the holistic development of the students. Stella Maris College has been helping students prepare for Civil Services exams since 2009. They run a program called Stella Maris Pathways, which helps students from less privileged backgrounds become better at studies and life skills. They offer training, workshops, and computer skills to boost confidence. The college has a book bank for students who can't afford textbooks, and they provide scholarships and fee concessions to those who need it.
