About St. Ann's College of Education

A Catholic minority institution, St. Ann's College of Education is run by the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Ann, whose Generalate is located in Rome. It is associated with Osmania University and is supported by grants from the Andhra Pradesh government. The Sisters of St. Ann are active around the world, including in Brazil, Peru, the United States, Mexico, the Philippines, and Italy. It provides its services at educational institutions, hospitals, dispensaries, nursing homes for the elderly, homes for the poor, homes for the disabled, social and technical institutes, parishes, orphanages, and boarding houses. The first women-only aided institution in the Telanga region, this college was established in 1966. It started simply by renting space from St. Ann's School. A huge, airy, and well-designed two-story circular building was built in 1976 with funding from the Dutch Foundation, CEBEMO, and management contributions. In addition to the administrative block, which houses the Principal's room, office, parlor, guest room, and staff room, the school has large classrooms, a student center, a library, a reading room, two large laboratories for biological and physical sciences and a smaller one for psychology, a computer lab, a work experience room, an educational technology room, a dining hall, and a prayer room. The teaching staff is made up of highly certified topic specialists who meet NCTE standards. There are currently 15 teachers on staff, including 9 with doctorates, 2 M.Phil.s, and other Post Graduates with M.Ed. Ten of our academic colleagues have earned PhDs in the previous three years, and two have received M.Phil. degrees. The faculty is committed to the cause of teacher education and upholds the institution's vision and mission. Redefining the needs and reworking the curriculum are done so pro-actively. St. Ann's College of Education only accepts female students. Graduation is required, but many students who enroll in the course already hold graduate degrees. They are admitted into the college by the government's allocation of seats in each discipline. The allocation for social studies methodology is currently 30%, followed by biological science (25%), mathematics (30%), and physical science (15%). According to their performance on the EdCET, all students are admitted. The students from minority communities are given preference. Dr.Sr. Marie Antoinette was replaced as principal by Rev.Sr. Pia from 1975 to 1981. Sister worked to combine science and devotion. From 1981 through 1995, Rev. Sr. Sylvia D'souza served as the principal. Through seminars, workshops, exhibitions, and other cooperative techniques, Sr. Sylvia, a vibrant principal, changed the way that students are taught and learn. In 1995, Rev. Dr. Sr. Marlene was chosen to lead St. Ann's College of Education. Rev. Dr.Sr. Marlene started her mission with fervor and dedication, keeping the vision of high-quality education and the motto "Serve with love." Dr.Sr. Marlene was a practical person with strong convictions. She paved the road for the institution to win many awards, including the NAAC accreditation of the college in 2002 and the college's autonomous status in 2005. St. Ann's College of Education experienced a qualitative improvement throughout this time, which was shown in the rewriting of the curriculum, innovative techniques and strategies, and the adoption of local and global societal concerns. At both the national and international levels, several seminars were held at this time to hear from eminent education experts before considering making changes to the current curriculum. For the efficient operation of autonomy, quality circle Committees and Statutory Boards have been constituted. Since 1986, Dr. Sr. Marry Kutty P.J. has been a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Ann. She is the principal of St. Ann's College of Education (Autonomous) in Secunderabad. For around 13 years, Sister taught in the schools that the Congregation operated in various states of India. Being a spiritually minded individual who had dedicated her everything to the Congregation, Sister was urged to pursue higher education to prepare herself to become an erudite academician. Later, Sister volunteered for an additional nine years as a teacher educator at St. Ann's College of Education. She gained valuable insight into key elements of teacher behavior from her rich experiences as a teacher and teacher educator in the fields of Methodology of Teaching English and Educational Psychology (B.Ed), Educational Administration, Advanced Educational Psychology, Special Education, and Emerging Issues in Teacher Education (M.Ed). This insight inspired her to finish her doctoral research in the field of Teacher Competencies and co-author a book titled Prospective Pedagogy.
