About St. Albert's College

St. Albert's College, an esteemed educational institution, stands proudly as an autonomous establishment under the guidance of the Archdiocese of Verapoly. Nestled in the heart of Kochi, a vibrant city in Kerala, India, the college is affiliated with the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam. The foundation of this educational gateway was laid long before its official inception, with the establishment of St. Albert's High School in 1892. Initially serving as a school, St. Albert's High School gained recognition and prominence, leading to its elevation to the status of a Madras University institution on August 18, 1898. From its early days, the institution has been dedicated to providing exceptional education to young male students in the greater Cochin area. The turning point for St. Albert's High School came in 1946 when the University of Madras bestowed upon it the status of a second-grade college. This elevation marked a significant milestone in the institution's journey. On July 16, 1946, the Intermediate Class commenced their studies at the newly formed St. Albert's College. Initially housed within the premises of the former High School building, the college welcomed 150 students eager to embark on their higher education journey. In 1947, St. Albert's College expanded its academic offerings by introducing degree programs, further solidifying its position as a prominent institution of higher learning. As the college continued to grow and flourish, the need for a dedicated space became evident. In 1951, the college shifted its classrooms from the old school building to a new, purpose-built facility located just across the street. This move provided a more conducive environment for students to pursue their academic aspirations. Over the years, St. Albert's College has witnessed various affiliations that have shaped its educational landscape. In 1958, with the enactment of the Kerala University Act, the college's affiliation transitioned from Madras University to the esteemed Kerala University. This transition broadened the college's horizons, aligning it with the educational policies and advancements of the state. St. Albert's College, with its rich history and commitment to academic excellence, has remained a beacon of education in the region. The institution continues to nurture young minds, providing them with a holistic and transformative educational experience. The autonomy enjoyed by the college empowers it to develop innovative curriculum, encourage research and intellectual exploration, and foster a culture of academic freedom. Today, St. Albert's College stands as a testament to the vision of its founders and the unwavering dedication of its faculty and staff. It serves as a catalyst for social and intellectual development, producing graduates who contribute to the betterment of society in various domains. The college's affiliation with Mahatma Gandhi University ensures that its students receive a world-class education, preparing them for a future of opportunities and success. In conclusion, St. Albert's College has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a high school in 1892. Its transformation into a renowned institution of higher education exemplifies its commitment to academic excellence and holistic development. With its strong affiliation with Mahatma Gandhi University and the backing of the Archdiocese of Verapoly, St. Albert's College continues to shape the future of countless students, empowering them to become leaders and change-makers in their respective fields.
