School of Planning and Architecture, Mysore

The School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) in Mysore was established during the academic year 2015-16 as part of the prestigious University of Mysore, situated in Mysuru. The school comprises two departments, namely the Department of Planning and the Department of Architecture. The Urban and Regional Planning Courses, including M.Tech in Urban and Regional Planning and PhD programs, were initiated back in 1971 at the Institute of Development Studies. On the other hand, the Architecture Courses, including B.Arch and M.Arch (Urban Design), were introduced in 2002 at the University School of Design (USD) within the University of Mysore. In order to foster academic and research activities, the School of Planning and Architecture was formed by merging the Urban and Regional Planning courses from IDS and the Architecture Courses from USD. These planning courses hold recognition from the Institute of Town Planners India (ITPI) in New Delhi, while the Architecture Courses are acknowledged by the Council of Architecture (CoA) in New Delhi. It is worth mentioning that the School of Planning and Architecture was ranked seventh nationally by India Today in 2021, highlighting its remarkable academic standing and accomplishments. In terms of facilities, the School operates from a newly constructed building known as the School of Planning Architecture Building, strategically positioned within the University of Mysore Campus. The SPA campus spans across 15 acres of land and boasts a built-up area of 84,000 sq.ft., featuring state-of-the-art amenities. The building houses 18 studio-cum-lecture halls, ensuring a conducive learning environment of international standards. Furthermore, the School provides a well-equipped library and a computer lab equipped with all the necessary software and Wi-Fi connectivity to cater to the entire School community. To facilitate various events and gatherings, the campus includes a 350-capacity auditorium and a 1500-capacity amphitheater. Additionally, individual faculty rooms are available to foster personalized interactions between faculty members and students. The School also houses an in-house stationery shop to cater to the academic needs of the students. Furthermore, cafe and canteen facilities are provided, ensuring that students have access to refreshments throughout the day. To promote a holistic learning experience, the School offers sports and games facilities to encourage physical fitness and well-being among students.
