Narsee Monjee College of Commerce & Economics, affiliated with Mumbai University, stands as a distinguished institution in the field of higher education. Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM), founded in 1934, initially aimed to provide school-level education to the residents of Vile Parle and its surrounding areas. However, as the Mandal celebrated its Silver Jubilee twenty-five years later, the need for college-level education became apparent. Recognizing the absence of Gujarati-managed colleges in the nearby suburbs, the Managing Committee made the decision to establish a Commerce College within the Mandal's premises in the JVPD scheme area of Vile Parle. And so, in 1964, Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics came into existence.
From its inception, the college was dedicated to providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary for self-reliance and successful careers in the field of commerce. Over time, the college expanded its scope to encompass the holistic development of its students, recognizing the need to prepare them for the fierce competition in every aspect of life. With an initial intake of 250 students, the college has now grown significantly, accommodating approximately 5500 students.
The college's academic programs have evolved and diversified over the years. What began as a single course in B.COM has now expanded to include three additional undergraduate programs: Bachelor of Management Studies, Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance), Bachelor in Commerce (Financial Markets), and one interdisciplinary course, Bachelor of Science (Information Technology). Furthermore, the college offers postgraduate courses in Commerce, with streams in Advanced Accountancy, Business Management, and Banking and Finance.
Throughout its remarkable 51-year journey, Narsee Monjee College of Commerce & Economics has nurtured and produced numerous successful individuals who have excelled in various fields. The college takes pride in having contributed to the development of prominent industrialists, chartered accountants, film artists, singers, musicians, theatre personalities, fashion designers, and sports stars, who have gone on to make significant contributions to the country.
