Mahatma Gandhi College, dedicated to the revered memory of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, stands as a testament to the visionary leadership of the Nair Service Society. Established in 1948, this esteemed institution owes its existence to the relentless efforts of the late Sri. Mannathu Padmanabhan, the founder of the Nair Service Society, and the generous contributions from individuals from all walks of life.
The college commenced its journey in the premises of Vadasseri Amma Veedu at Perumthanni before finding its permanent home at Kesavadasapuram. The foundation stone for the new building was laid by His Excellency Sri. C. Rajagopalachari, the last Governor General of India, on a picturesque two-acre hillock on August 22, 1948. In 1949, the arts section shifted to the new building, followed by the science section in 1950. The completion of the main building complex in 1958 marked a significant milestone, which was graced by the inauguration by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, on April 24, 1958.
Over the years, Mahatma Gandhi College has grown in stature and influence, celebrating its Silver Jubilee during 1974-75 and its Golden Jubilee alongside the nation's 50th anniversary of Independence. Today, it proudly serves as the torch-bearing collegiate institution of the Nair Service Society, nurturing the academic aspirations of nearly 3000 students.
The college offers a diverse range of 14 undergraduate and 9 postgraduate courses, along with research facilities leading to a Ph.D. degree in five disciplines. Additionally, it features a U.G.C aided job-oriented B.Sc Degree Course in Instrumentation.
