The institute strives to excel in the areas of medical education, research, and healthcare services to be ranked among the top 10 medical colleges in India. The Dr. Prabhakar Kore Charitable Hospital, which has a remarkable 1000 beds, as well as three Primary Health Centres and one Urban Health Centre, support the institute in its pursuit of this objective. In addition to offering patients free care, these hospitals serve as the focal points of undergraduate and graduate education, focusing primarily on educating the upcoming generation of medical professionals on essential ideas and skills. The urgent need for medical facilities in the area led to the founding of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Belgaum in 1963. The college has grown to be a famous institution in the field of medical education, a monument to the high professional standards established by the KLE Society. Under the inspirational guidance of the late Dr. B.S. Jirge, the Founder and Dean, the institution's current level of academic excellence was set in place. During the institution's early years, notable medical educators like the late Dr. B.S. Desai and Dr. M. Basavaraj Urs served as principals. Dr. S.G. Desai became the institution's principal in 1971, having a profound effect on it. He oversaw the construction of strict rules for decorum, discipline, and academic excellence from 1971 until 1985. The organization prospered and grew under his direction, winning praise for its dedication to high-quality education. When Dr. H.B. Rajshekhar became principal in 1985, he significantly accelerated the college's development. The college underwent significant infrastructure and learning resource growth during his leadership. The KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre, the Department of Medical Education, the Digital Library, and partnerships with the University of Illinois in the United States were all established thanks in large part to Dr. Rajshekhar's contributions. These initiatives, which were conceived of and carried out under his direction, greatly improved the institution's academic and research capacity. Dr. Rajshekhar also gave students' welfare and assistance first priority, making sure that they had access to facilities and materials that improved their entire learning experience.
