Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is a statutory institution of higher learning founded by the Gujarati government in accordance with the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003. The Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) (2f & 12B) both recognise the university. The University is a part of several other organisations, including the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), International Association of Law Schools (IALS), Asian Law Institute (ASLI), and Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.
In order to realise its mission, vision, and core values as a socially responsible educational institution, GNLU is dedicated to being a leader in environmental sustainability research, education, and outreach. The University's commitment to minimise energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in order to address climate change is reflected in the promise made in its Campus Master Plan. Through the integration of sustainability into every facet of campus life and operations, the university works to lessen its negative environmental effect.
The GNLU faculty is made up of knowledgeable and skilled teachers, researchers, and practitioners who offer a variety of specialties to the classroom. They use cutting-edge teaching strategies, involve students in lively debates, and promote the development of analytical and critical thinking abilities. The GNLU campus is spread out across a verdant area and is furnished with contemporary amenities and equipment. It has modern research centres, a well-stocked library, computer laboratories, moot court chambers, and dorms for students in addition to well-appointed classrooms. Additionally, the campus has leisure amenities such sports facilities, gyms, and cultural venues.
Through moot court contests, internships, research projects, and legal aid clinics, GNLU places an emphasis on experiential learning and offers chances for students to participate in hands-on legal training. In order to promote information exchange and academic discussion, the institution regularly sponsors national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops that bring together legal professionals, academics, and students. The institution has formed ties and collaborations with top national and international law schools and organisations, allowing teachers and students to take part in conferences, research collaborations, and exchange programmes.
In order to help students find internships and job opportunities with prestigious law firms, corporations, legal organisations, and governmental entities, GNLU maintains a specialised placement and internship assistance cell. To help students find careers, the cell hosts recruitment drives, networking gatherings, and career counselling sessions.
