One of the oldest and most famous institutions in the Mumbai region and the state of Maharashtra, Government Polytechnic Mumbai is an academically independent institution of the Government of Maharashtra. It was founded in 1960. Academic autonomy was granted to the institute in 1994.The Institute had worked on a number of projects, including the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme Phase II and the World Bank-assisted project. Very solid industry relations exist at the institute.The following branches are available in the institute's three-year, AICTE-approved diploma sandwich pattern programme: Civil Engineering Computer Engineering Electrical Engineering Electronics Engineering Information Technology Instrumentation Engineering Mechanical Engineering Leather Technology Leather Goods and Footwear Technology Rubber Technology Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning An innovative Diploma programme in Rubber Technology (Self Financed) was launched in 1999–2000 with 100% placements each year as a cooperative effort between the institute and the All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA). (There are 24 places available for Maharashtra domicile students and 6 seats for OMS students.Implementation of a Central Government of India initiative to include PWDs in technical education and community development through the Polytechnic.Students will have access to an outcome-based curriculum with a switch pattern starting in 2019, and all courses' curricula will include in-plant training after six months.
